Poster Print
- Introduction
Cypher currently operates 4 x large
format poster printers. This is mainly because in over 11 years of
specialising in large format short run digital print we have yet to
find one printer that will do everything.
For exhibition, display work and point of
sale work we have a 60" (1,524mm) wide
HP Z6100 Vivera pigment ink printer and a
60" (1,524mm)
wide HP5500 with UV or Dye based inks. These
print at high speed and at a photo realistic
quality using 8 and 6 colour inks
respectively, offering the brightest colours
and up to 200 years indoor fade resistance
for the HP Z6100 prints.
For ultimate print quality and reproduction
with fade resistance of up to
75 years indoors we have an Epson 9600 44" (1,117mm).
This prints using 7 colour ultrachrome pigment
inks and is typically used for Giclee (fine
art) work on smooth or textured fine art
paper and artists canvas.
We also offer outdoor posters and signage
using low-solvent outdoor inks on a 64" (1600mm)
HP 9000S printer. Typically this is used
to print PVC banners, windmesh banners, self
adhesive vinyl, info panels, signs and waterproof
fabrics.
As we specialise in large format photo realistic printing,
the print quality is of course exceptional. In fact
the quality produced actually exceeds what is required
for this size of print when you consider that viewing
distances are much greater than typically encountered
in exhibition and information display materials. Practically
this means that the HP9000S low-solventprints can also
be used for very fine detail outdoor durable work such
as information, interpretative and display panels used
in tourist attractions, museums and galleries.
Cypher
moved into large format printing in
1995 initially with 36 (914mm)
wide Encad Novajet printers and subsequently
42 (1,066mm)
wide HP printers as technology developed.
Our printers have regularly been replaced and new ones brought in to handle the
ever increasing volumes of large format print that are we produce. They have
also opened up new markets for the bigger and bigger prints that our clients
keep demanding.
Cypher Digital Imaging was one of the first companies in the UK to install a
completely new innovation in large format print technology in 2004 an
Agfa Grand Sherpa Universal 87. This had a print width of 2,200mm or 7 3,
this is the 87 that gave the machine its name! As it is roll fed the final
lengths of any prints are dictated only by handling limits on site.
The Agfa used a completely new type of eco-solvent
ink which was outdoor durable for up to three years
and unlike the dye and pigment solutions we used it
did not neccessarily need laminating, unless extra
durability for handling or abrasion resistance was
required. As we worked closely with Agfa we upgraded
this within the year and were the first company
in the UK to install an Agfa Grand Universal
90 AM. This was a 90" (2,286mm) wide and
used second generation eco-solvent inks which
were brighter and even more durable.
In 2007 we upgraded our highly rated dye
based HP 5000 42" to a 60" HP Z6100 which
uses the latest HP Vivera 8 colour pigment
inks offering print lifespans of up to
200 years as well as unrivalled print quality.
We also upgraded our Agfa printer to an
HP 9000S which uses more durable low-solvent
inks and although slightly narrower at
1600mm wide is much faster, allowing us
to meet the shorter deadlines that are
common in the display and exhibition market
these days.
